In the west Uzbekistan borders with Turkmenistan, in the north and east – with Kazakhstan, in the south it shares the borders with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and small part of Afghanistan.

This country has plane monotonous landscape, almost the same size as Sweden; nearly two thirds of its territory, mainly in the west, are prairies and deserts. The only exception is the delta of the Amu Darya river, where it flows into the rest of the Aral Sea. In the east Uzbekistan joins mountain masses of neighbor countries – the place where the rivers spring from.

The greatest waterway of Central Asia is the Amu Darya river, which takes the longest part of the border with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. The most fertile lands (accordingly the main part of population) are in intermountain valleys, on plains at the foot of mountains, and along three biggest rivers.

The temperature in Uzbekistan differs in variety, sometimes it reaches -20 °C (-4 °F) at night time, and it is totally different in deserts and mountains.

Rain is a rare phenomenon, with exceptions in highlands. Precipitation is usually from March till April. In plane districts the weather may be very nice, especially from May till the beginning of June, and from September till the beginning of October. The middle of the summer is unfavorable for health; the temperature rises to 40°C (104 °F) in Tashkent, and to 47 °C (116.6°F) in the south point. In winter period (January-February) day temperature fluctuates between -5 °C (23 °F) and -10 °C (14 °F).
